Honey is not only an excellent sweetener, but an efficient traditional remedy. Since the dawn of time honey has been valued by many cultures for its antimicrobial and bactericidal abilities. Scientists have found that children who had 10 grams of honey before going to bed showed reduction of cold symptoms such as coughing and sore throat.
But bear in mind that babies under 12 month old are not allowed to consume honey – due to the risk of catching botulinum spores. While the spores do not usually affect adults and older kids, they do disturb immune systems of small babies, which are unable to ward bacteria off.
