A Mineral of an Exceptional Rarity
The sands of Egypt are full of interesting findings, and one of them is Libyan Glass. You can find this unique mineral only in this desert, and it is considered by geologists as an exceptional rarity. This was probably why ancient Egyptians treasured it and made the Tutankhamun’s pendant out of Libyan Glass. Mineralogists still have different versions of its formation, but one of them is based on the assumption that it was a fault of a huge meteorite fallen into the desert. Its high temperature made the sand melt and transformed it into the liquid mixture which was blown up by the wind throughout the desert.
